Marking life events

Throughout our lives there are many occasions that we might want to mark by having a special event, or by asking for God’s blessing and help. In church we call these ‘life events’: occasions like getting married, having a wedding blessing, marking the birth of a child, celebrating a significant anniversary or birthday, taking the next step in your journey of faith, and helping people to mark the end of a life through a funeral service or memorial.

If you’re part of our congregation, if you live in our parish or have a connection to our churches, then we’re here to help you mark your life event. Do get in touch, and we’d love to discuss the different options that are available. If you’re not sure which parish you live in, please check the Parish Finder.

Baptism & Christenings

When a child arrives or when a new faith begins...

Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God which continues for the rest of our lives, the first step in response to God’s love. When baptising babies, this is often called a Christening. Both Christening and Baptism involve water and are an important milestone in marking a new life.

If you are considering baptism for you or for your child we would love to hear from you.

Weddings

When a life begins...

If you have decided to get married and are thinking of one of our churches for this occasion, we'd love to hear from you, oh and congratulations!

You do not have to be baptised or a churchgoer to get married in church, although the marriage service is a Christian one, in which you make promises to God, as well as each other.

Funerals

When a life has ended...

Losing a loved one is usually a difficult and busy time but funeral services are an important part of the process of grieving and saying goodbye.

Everybody who lives in the parishes of St Luke and St Thomas’ is entitled to have their funeral in one of our churches.  Our clergy are also available to take funerals at a cemetery or crematorium chapel.
